Don´t mess with Texas-cake

In Cakes and pies, Chocolate, Kid´s menu, Sweets on August 28, 2011 at 22:02

How many recipes are there for chocolate cakes? Thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Correct answer? Never enough 🙂

This one is of the dark, moist, seductive kind. And it´s sneaky. It grabs hold of your tongue, possessively, and doesn´t let go until you take a big gulp of ice cold milk… But even after that it leaves you unsatisfied, yearning for more…

2 x success cake (suksesskake)

In Cakes and pies, Sweets, Uncategorized on May 6, 2011 at 22:02

This lovely, yellow half cake / half confectionery (with no food colorings) is actually called “suksesskake” in Norwegian. I don´t know that this cake has a name in English, Google sure didn´t provide me with any – so let´s just do a quick and dirty translation and call it a success cake. Agreed?

This recipe yields two cakes, and it is perfect for freezing. Pure genious, I tell ya!

Brownies with caramelized walnuts and walnut caramel

In Brownies, Cakes and pies, My favorites, Sweets on April 19, 2011 at 00:01

Since it is Easter and all I´ll just go ahead and start off by making some dessert… Might as well, don´t you think? A little while back I shared with you the recipe for Swedish brownie cake. These brownies are made using that recipe, but with a sweet and crunchy little twist.

Swedish brownie cake

In Brownies, Cakes and pies, Chocolate, Sweets on February 25, 2011 at 23:17

The first time I had this cake I was in Amsterdam visiting some good friends from Finland (and no, this is not one of those types of brownies!). Finnish friends that I met in Oklahoma. Yes, Sanna, I am talking about your Swedish brownie cake 🙂

I somewhat remembered the recipe (I think) and have baked the cake many times over after that wonderful weekend in Amsterdam. Ready for a truly international cake?

Epic cinnamon buns

In Bakery, Cakes and pies, Cinnamon buns, Kid´s menu, Sweets on January 31, 2011 at 22:40

Epic? You think I might be joking, but I am dead serious. Cut sugar for a whole week to make space in your life for these babies, and prepare for a oh so sweet sugar high… Yup, they´re that good!

Quiche Lorraine

In Cakes and pies, Eggs, Kid´s menu, Lunch, Quiche Lorraine, Side dishes, Small dishes on October 31, 2010 at 22:27

A classic, rustic quiche is one of my favorite dishes. It is light, has a smooth and creamy texture, tastes just as good for breakfast as it does for lunch and even dinner.

Eat it by itself, or with a nice green salad as sidekick. Talk about classy comfort food!

Chocolate cobbler: a success story!

In Cakes and pies, Chocolate, Desserts, Sweets on October 17, 2010 at 22:42

Finally, after a birthday party and a nice long fall break in Spain with our great friends, I have resumed the position:

On the couch, my favorite blanket over me, my macbook on my lap and a cup of tea beside me. And the movie “Coco avant Chanel” playing in the background. Writing about chocolate in the absence of chocolate required a little side-tracker… Chocolate lovers; brace yourselves.

Sh*t happens

In Cakes and pies, Chocolate, Sweets on September 22, 2010 at 22:03

For those of you (if any!) that are under the impression that my life is all smooth sailin´and that Karen has full control, here is hard, cold proof (or very hot proof in this particular case) that this is far from the truth!

I found this great recipe for a chocolate cobbler a few weeks ago, and have just been waiting for the right time to take it for a test run…  Read the rest of this entry »

Razzle-dazzle raspberry crumble pie

In Cakes and pies, Crumble pie, Raspberry, Sweets, Vanilla on August 9, 2010 at 23:18

My friend and neighbor Astrid visited me today. She came bearing beautiful, big, fresh raspberries – fresh from the farmer´s market. She is a very good friend. Even though we ate a lot of them earlier today, I still had a few left over…

Hmmm, what to do, what to do…  How about a late summer dessert for two? Actually the recipe is for four, but four doesn´t rhyme with “do”.

Easy-peasy vanilla cake

In Cakes and pies, Sweets, Vanilla on May 23, 2010 at 13:43

I didn´t really make this for the blog – I just wanted cake 😀

But, seriously, this cake is so easy and quick to make, and it is so good! Moist and flavorful! And lots of potential if you want to be creative with it.
